Renee Dent Blankenship
art + design

Photography is unedited, raw, true.
I look through the lens and it is the view to my artistic world.
This view through the camera never fails to inspire me.
Inspiration is all around in my Southern surroundings.
I enjoy shooting the natural world as well as man's urban realities.
Whether roaming through the woods, among flowers in a garden,
stepping carefully over shells washed onto the sand by the warm Gulf waters
or travelling through a rural town with that shabby chic-ness of old signs and abandoned buildings,
walking along a city street transfixed by the beauty of its architecture or in a cafe people watching
I find that my muse, the South, provides incredible moments that must be captured.
The art that emerges from these wanderings and observations is mysterious, beautiful and personal.

I find art to be from the soul of the artist captivated by the subject, the light, the colors,
the textures, the shapes, the setting, the experience.
The artist's work gives the art a feeling, a soul, an emotion.

Photography has always interested me since first going with my father on photo shoots.
We would look for the best shots and spend time working on them. Developing the art form.
It was a creative experience and a time of fond memories.

I learned about aperture, filters, the right light, the best cameras, the perfect photo papers and art papers,
and the love of photography during those days.
He introduced me to so much through the lens and inspired me to learn more.
During college I learned as much as possible about photography, its history
and even the artistic control of all the techniques in the darkroom.
Photography truly became an art and passion for me.

It is that inspiration, thoughtful reflection and perspective as well as an openness and a willingness to truly see
while looking through the lens that creates the art of the photograph for me.
It is very personal. It is my view point.
Art is emotive by nature and should be a creative and experimental process. Always evolving.

I believe that art and the artist become one during the creative process.
The subject and the photographer unite to tell a story…a story in pictures.

With me and every artist I believe art exists in the heart, in the tips of the artist’s fingers, in the eyes of the artist
as the work takes shape and life.
